This 200 pound life

My highest weight came in at 216 pounds. Now due to full disclosure I did lose 5 pounds before this part of my journey, however, for simplicity, I will tell the tale with my total weight loss.

I am 5'0" and 216 puts me in the morbidly obese section of the BMI - no, I do not believe to be the absolute determination for health, but when morbid is used defining your weight, it can't be good.

I gained 20 to 25 pounds in 2013. There were many factors, thyroid, depression, lack of exercise due to injury. The list goes on.

So I am here to turn this around. I am here to get healthy.

My son's 5th birthday is in just over 39 weeks. There is also a 5k/10k run the weekend prior to his birthday.  I did the 5k in 2013 where I injured both my feet and put me out of commission for the better part of a year. I did it again in 2014. However, I was not fully trained. I did complete it without injury and in a faster time. In 2015, I want to complete the 10k.

So I need to start now. I must learn to walk before I can begin the 5k and 10k training. I am using the Powerwalk app on my phone. It takes you from a 20 min walk to a 70 min walk in the course of 12 weeks.

So WeightWatchers had a deal on their online program. I did WW back in 1996/1997 and made lifetime. I know the program works, I just have to work through the voices in my head that try to make it more complicated.

While I joined on 6/25 and started counting points right away, I didn't start the Simple Start program until this week. I am happy to say that I have been doing really well on this plan so far - yes, I realize it is day three. My husband surprised me with a date night last night. While I enjoyed the food I made sure to count the points. This made me feel empowered.

My first goal is the 5% loss that WW recommends.  However, I have many other goals mapped out. There are some that are moving targets and I am most excited about these. #1 I want to weigh less than my husband, #2 I want to lose more than what my 4 year old weighs #3 I want to lose more than my 9 year old and #3 I want to lose more than both kids combined.

I started a challenge in the WW community to take us into Fall - my favorite time of year. My goal is to lose 18 pounds in the 12 weeks that remain. Yes, I will also finish the walking training in this time, so it all fits very nicely into my plan.

I use the TimeHop app. It tells you what you posted in previous years on the same day. It is really cool. However, today's had a picture of me and my mom from three years ago. I was 45 pounds lighter then, I know as I looked it up. The difference is the size of my 9 year old. This was a big enough ah ha moment to get me to focus.

Tonight I came home and after a healthy dinner I went and did my walk. I know it will take time to get back to the weight I was three years ago. I also know that I lost that weight while on medication that had a side effect of weight loss.

My first goal is to get to my 5%, 205.2. I can do this!
